Man Made Ancient Wonders of the World Top 10

Man always wants to do something creative against all odds and this imagination can be seen in all of his art works that he created many centuries back. The wonderful thing is that he was able to show his creativity at times when there were no facilities, tools or any type of amenities with which he could achieve his target. Yet he made wonderful structures and monuments that are not possible even today to think of. The mentioned monuments, temples and structures tell us about man’s desire to prove his strengths in various ways.

10. Teotihuacan


Once known as the largest city in pre-Colombian America and the archeological site Teotihuacan is located in Mexico. It is best known for its giant pyramidal structures. It spread up to 83 sq km. This place is mainly famous for its colorful and beautiful paintings. The place is also popular for the Avenue of the Dead which means huge inhabited complex.

9. Bagan Temples and Pagodas


The ancient of Bagan is situated in Mandalay in Burma. The ruins of the city stretch up to 42 sq km. The largest Dhammayangyi temple, Ananda temple, Shwesandaw temple, Gawdawpalin temple and Ananda temple are located in Bagan city.

Karnak Temple is located in Egypt in the city of Thebes, near Luxor. The temple is surrounded by el-Karnak which means a modern village so the name Karnak Temple. There are ruined temples and pylons chapels inside the Karnak complex. The Sacred Lake and Amun temple are also considered as temple’s part. The Karnak Complex is a huge open air museum and is visited most after the historical monuments, pyramids of Giza in Egypt.

Angkor Wat is located in Cambodia and is worldwide famous for Lord Vishnu temple ‘Mount Meru”. King Suryavarman II built this temple in 12th century which stands up as the world’s largest religious construction.

Forbidden City is located in Beijing, China. The city was built from 1406 to 1420 and it consists of 980 buildings. The city is spread over 7,800,000 sq ft. and it is famous for its wooden structure and the Palace of the city signifies the traditional Chinese architecture, which is highly impressive.

Machu Picchu is situated 7,970 ft above the sea level in Peru. It was created for the Inca emperor Pachacuti who ruled Peru from 1438 to 1472. Because it was constructed in Inca style, it has got the name “The Lost City of Incas”. When ‘New Seven Wonders of the World’, were declared in 2007, Machu Picchu was considered as one of them.

4. The Great Wall of China


The Chinese name of The Great Wall of China is “Wan-Li Qang-Qeng” and it is approximately 5,000 km long and covers most of the Northern China. It was built be the first emperor of China called Qin Shi Huangdi. Built about 2,000 years before, this great structure is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. From the vast stretch of 8,851.8 km, the actual wall covers only 6,259.6 km. The rest of the wall covers, 359.7 km of trenches, 2,232.5 km with natural barriers such as rivers and hills. In order to stop the nuisance of nomadic groups in Northern China, the Ming Dynasty built this wall. The construction of the wall was started in 1368 and was completed in 1644.

3. Bali


Bali is an island situated on the Western most end of Indonesia. With Hindu minority, the total population of Indonesia is about 3,891,000. Bali is mainly known for beautiful artistic things such as leather work, paintings, music and dance, sculpture, and metalworking. Also known as Island of Gods, Bali attracts great number of tourists every year. Covering a vast area of the country, Bali covers approximately 5,632.86 km.

The beautiful structure on the banks of Yamuna River Taj Mahal is located at Agra, in India. Emperor Shah Jahan wanted to build a breathtaking structure in the fond memory of his beloved wife Mumtaj Mahal. It was designed by Ustad Ahmad Lahauri and the construction started in about 1632. It took almost 21 years to complete this magnificent monument. This symbol of love has become an iconic structure of architectural genius in the world. It is a major tourist spot in India for visitors from all over the world.

1.Great Pyramids of Egypt


The Great Pyramids of Egypt are world famous for their masonry structures in pyramid shape. 138 pyramids in Egypt were discovered recently in the year 2008. The most famous pyramids are found in Giza and Khufu at Giza is the largest one. The other pyramids in Egypt are Pyramid of Menkaure, Sekhemkhet, Djoser, Khafra, and Sneferu. Among all these pyramids Djoser is considered as the oldest man made structure in the world.
